When digging in the yard a while back, I noticed something movie about in the dirt and went to investigate. The small brown object eventually turned out to be this lovely beauty: A Garden Wolf Spider.
Wolf Spiders are pretty harmless animals and pose no real threat to people, although you don’t want to get bitten by one as their chelicerae (fangs) are pretty large and powerful. She spends most of her time sprinting down annoying pest bugs like large woodlice and cockroaches, so I was more than happy to put her back securely in the garden after taking several photos. This isn’t actually the biggest wolf spider I’ve seen as well, with one that was about 1/4 bigger being seen that day (but sadly was not interested in photography like this specimen).
