I’ve had a mantis or two on Bugging About Friday before, but like spiders, I just can’t get enough of these wonderful predators. This one was spotted on a plant in Port Macquarie and the interesting bright white stripe drew me into a fair photography session.
Sitting happily on my hand here, I was really happy with the detail on the mantis that the camera was able to pick up: Especially on the forelimbs (it’s main weapons) and the side of the insect.
This is a shot from directly above, showing the wonderful white stripe on the back of the animal. Shortly after this, the ornery fellow tried to grab at a finger – presumably with the intention of eating it – so I decided to put it back on the plant I found it.
