Today on a walk around the train tracks over a river around where I live, I found an incredibly pleasing sight: A fully wild bee hive!
These industrious ladies had built the hive a good 9 or 10 feet off the ground, attached to one of the supports for the train tracks above. It was a highly bustling hive and I got some nice shots of it – sadly none particularly close due to the height above the ground it was. Fortuitously, I discovered the hives position because some of the combs had fallen off to the ground below, probably due to storms or similar damage. It’s actually pretty cool to see bee’s making wild hives like this and being able to get a good photograph of the “inside” of one is even better.
